When I saw packaged coconut water in India I was taken aback – don’t we have an abundance of vendors on the street selling coconut water? I have always lived south of Mumbai where I have always been around coconut trees. This is not the case in many part of India.
The promoter of Yubbi brand of tender coconut water tells me that even in places where coconut water is available on the streets people tend to still go and buy cold drinks from stores and Yubbi is offering a healthy alternative.
Fresh coconut water has about 50 calories, 9 grams carbs and only .5 grams of fat. It has plenty of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes such as potassium and sodium.
Yubbi has similar numbers on their packaging. The sodium content is considerably higher however – each bottle has 60 grams of sodium. BP patients should keep this in mind Sodium is the bio-preservative is mentioned on the packaging.
Bottom Line: Obviously fresh coconut water is the best option. But when you are faced with the choice of packaged juices or soft drinks, Yubbi coconut water is preferred.
